Downham at 100

In 2025, the Downham Estate will be turning 100 years old!

Built in 1925, this estate is a cornerstone of our community with a rich history. To make this milestone truly special there will be community events with local residents other local organisations taking place throughout the year. Please see below for updates and further details about upcoming events, competitions and more!

 

 

BAL TABARIN

at St Barnabas Hall, 6pm - 9pm

An evening of old music from Ballroom to Rock, ska, Rhythm and Blues and more, Bring your Dancing shoes, Indulge in some local nostalgia and our Raffle with proceeds going towards our summer event.

Centenary Tea Party - venue change

To celebrate the centenary of Downham’s first homes, enjoy a nostalgic afternoon with tea and cake at Wesley Halls, BR1 5PE, on Sunday 16th February, at 3:00pm-5:00pm

 

This event is free but you must book in advance at Eventbite.

The tea party will now be held at Wesley Halls Community Centre, Shroffold Road starting at 3.00pm. There will still be the tree planting in Old Bromley Road at 2.30pm.

 

At Wesley Halls you will discover original pictures and information from The Downham Reminiscence Group (1986) along with pictures from the London Metropolitan Archive and an original painting of the Woodland Walk by a 13-year-old pupil nearly 70 years ago.

 

Members of Lewisham Music will be creating an audio time capsule, where people can share their memories, reflections and stories about their connections with Downham. There will also be entertainment from Downham & Whitefoot Community Choir and dances by the Tamil Community.
