Queen's 90th Birthday Curriculum Week
Fri 20 May 2016This week we have been celebrating Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday as part of our curriculum week.
Children have been decorating commemorative plates and making bunting for our celebration assembly, where each year group shared their learning with song, dance, drama or art.
On Friday children came to school dressed in red, white and blue. The most patriotic outfits were presented with a prize!
All The entries for the “Make a Crown” competition were fantastic. The winners for each year group were:

Downderry School Radio
Fri 13 May 2016The school council heard that children wanted a Downderry school radio station so children can experience what it’s like to be a real radio DJ. The radio studio will be used to improve speaking and listening skills, build confidence and teamwork. The equipment was purchased thanks to a generious contribution from the Mayor of Lewisham.

SATs
Fri 13 May 2016Year 6 have been sitting SATs tests all week, which finished yesterday. We are immensely proud of all of the children and the hard work they have been putting in for several months now. Year 6 teachers would also like to extend a thank you to parents and carers, for your support during this time. We have all worked incredibly hard and shown tremendous teamwork.

STEM week
Thu 24 Mar 2016This week was STEM week, Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths, with a transport theme!
Each class made moving transport models, some used elastic bands, some used balloons, and some even used real motors! Each class got to choose a winner for their fantastic efforts!
Professor Brainstorm came in showed us some fantastic science experiments. Well down everyone!

Sport Relief
Mon 21 Mar 2016Children have been taking part in lots of sporting challenges and activities this week as part of Sport Relief. We have been Trampolining, playing Table Tennis and doing the Speed Bounce challenge.
On Tuesday, Luke, Aiysha, Sujeeth, Skylar, Noah and Sathana swam the sport relief mile, as a relay team, in an impressive 25 minutes 46 seconds. Beating the school record set two years ago!
On Friday year 5 and 6 children went on a 9 mile cycle ride along the length of the Green Chain walk and the best Speed Bouncers from each year took on the teachers during assembly. The best score was achieved by Mishka of 89 bounces in 30 second.
The teachers also took on year 6 in a tag rugby match and swimmers from year 5 and 6 competed in the Lewisham primary schools swimming gala at Glass Mill leisure centre. -
World Book Day 2016- Thursday 3rd March
Fri 29 Jan 2016On Thursday 3rd March we will be celebrating World Book Day. To mark the occasion we are asking all children to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book/ inspired by their favourite children's author.
One of the best African story tellers, Usifu, will be visiting Downderry and leading children in story telling workshops throughout the day. We look forward to your support in making World Book Day 2016 the best yet!

Mayor Visit
Fri 22 Jan 2016Once again, pupils from Downderry Primary school were invited to meet the mayor of Lewisham at his chambers. Our young ambassadors representing our school were: Skylar, Sonny, Tyler and Alyssia.
A great experience was had by all, and the mayor was asked some very challenging questions regarding improvements to the Downham area. Watch this space for further developments!

Parent Workshop - Assessment
Wed 13 Jan 2016As part of Parent Learning Week this week we are held a parent workshop on the changes to assessment for 2016.
Thank you to all the parents who came to the parent workshop. The turn out was fantastic. We hope you found it informative and your feedback is appreciated.
The next parent workshop will be on Tuesday 9th February on Internet Safety.

Downderry Choir
Fri 08 Jan 2016The school choir warmed up for Christmas, hitting the right note when they performed within the local community with guest appearances at the Children's Centre Christmas party and Lewisham's shopping centre. Cheering Christmas shoppers, they raised a magnificent £461.77 for St. Christopher's Hospice.
