  • Rights Respecting School: Silver Award

    Downderry had a visit from Unicef’s Rights Respecting Schools Assessors last week and we have been awarded the Silver: Rights Aware Award!

     

    The Assessor said of Downderry; “Pupil empowerment is a strength of the school. Children know they are listened to and that their views are respected and valued and have made a difference.”

     

    We are very proud of all our Children, Parents, Governors and Staff for helping to achieve this award. Well done!

  • Mudchute Farm

    Reception had a fantastic time at Mudchute farm where they got to find out about lots of different farm animals. They were very lucky to be able to stroke and feed some of the animals, they especially enjoyed feeding the donkey! Did you know that pigs are actually the cleanest animals on the farm?

  • Young Voices

    On Tuesday the Downderry Choir took part in the Young Voices concert at the O2 arena with 7,000 other school children, making up the largest school choir in the world!

     

    Everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed the phenomenal atmosphere and we are all so proud of our Downderry choir! We would also like to thank the parents, carers and friends for supporting the children and attending.

  • Early Years, Social Skills Week

    Early Years have had a fantastic week learning all about being healthy. We have learnt different techniques of how to wash our hands and enjoyed some yummy strawberry and banana smoothies.

     

    We have also taken part in a fantastic exercise workshop with Mr Hall and looked at what happened to our bodies after our exercise. The children have learnt so much about their bodies and why it is important to look after them. Well Done Early Years.

  • Downderry Choir

    We have received a letter from Demelza Hospice Care for Children informing us that our Downderry Choir helped to raise £1,125.85 for the charity when they sang in The Glades, Bromley, before Christmas.

     

  • ShoeShare

    Today children have been donating their old or unwanted shoes for our ShoeShare campaign.

     

    ShoeShare is a campaign in partnership with the Rights Respecting Schools Award and Clarks, which collects old or unwanted shoes, which are then sent for re-use. For every tonne of shoes collected, a donation is made to Unicef, which goes towards education programmes around the world.

     

    A huge thank you to everyone who donated their shoes today. and congratulations to Sycamore class who donated the most shoes!

  • Downderry Xmas Factor

    On Tuesday we held our annual Xmas Factor talent contest. The standard was very high, well done to everyone who took part. The winner was Chloe from year4 for her dance act to Uptown Funk!

  • Christmas Fair

    A huge “Thank You” to the PTA for organising a fantastically festive Christmas Fair and thank you to all parents, carers and friends who came along and those who made donations. We raised £840. This will be going towards a variety of projects within the school to support the children's experiences and learning!

  • Christmas Jumper Day

    Today we have been raising money for Save the Children by wearing our Christmas Jumpers to school. We will inform you of the total raised next term.
