  • Black History Week

    This week children have been celebrating Black History Week, with each year group focusing their learning on a different black artist. Throughout the week they have taken part in a workshop with Mr Green, thinking about how they can portray a particular piece of their artists work through music.

     

    We have taken inspiration from each artist in various ways: through PE and movement, Art, English and Maths.

  • Football Festival

    On Thursday Downderry competed in a football festival hosted by Bonus Pastor. Both our boys and girls teams tried hard and supported each other really well. They were also supported by a large contingent of family members and school staff. With a record of one win, two draws and one loss, our girls team came third in the girls’ tournament. The Boys team won the boys tournament with one draw and five wins! Well done to all our players. A great start to our football season!

  • Harvest Festival Assembly

    We will be having a special Harvest assembly on Wednesday 17th October, where children will be learning about Harvest from Father Stuart.

     

    We are collecting tins, dried food and packets to donate to the elderly representatives from Bellingham Golden Oldies and to the Lewisham Food Bank. Your gift will be appreciated. Children are asked to bring donations to their class by Monday 15th October.
  • Parent Learning Week

    Many thanks to all the parents who attended our English workshops - the feedback has been very positive and the children all enjoyed working with you.

     

    Our next Parent Learning Partnership week will be Maths, during the week beginning 8th October. You are invited to join your child and experience a typical Maths lesson.

     

    A crèche facility will be available. Sessions will take place at 9:15am and will last approximately 45 minutes including a Q&A session with the teacher:

  • Roald Dahl Day

    Thank you for all the support on Roald Dahl Day on Thursday 13th September! We had a marvellous day, celebrating Roald Dahl and all his wonderful characters and books.

     

    Roald Dahl was famous for writing in his shed.  This year’s competition is for children to submit their favourite places to read and/or write. Take a photo and write a short explanation as to why this place is your favourite!

     

    Well done to everyone who entered our Roald Dahl competition. All the entries for this year’s competition were fantastic!

  • Parent Learning Week - English

  • Head Pupil elections

    This week the children have been voting in the Head pupil elections. All the candidates gave excellent campaign speeches and after a very close vote, the Head Girl was named as Ruby and the new Head Boy will be Emmanuel, with Saran and Latifa Deputy Head Pupils.

  • International Week & Food Festival

    This week children have been learning about different countries and cultures around the world as part of International week. The highlights were our sharing assembly on Friday and our annual international food festival on Wednesday.

     

    We would like to thank all the parent, carers and children who supported our food festival. It was a mouthwatering treat, sampling food from all around the world. A special thank you goes out to all the parents who donated food and made delicious dishes for the festival, and to local businesses Pizza Hut and Lando Family Butchers in Downham for their generous donations!

    Notable headlines:

     

    • From 370 returns, 97% of pupils are happy to come to school
    • 99% felt that they learnt a lot in class
    • 97% reported that behaviour was good
    • 38% reported that children were friendly and polite most of the time and 57% felt that children were sometimes friendly and polite. This will be a focus in future assemblies and school council.
  • Year 4 School Journey

    Fri 18 May 2018

    This week, year 4 have been on school journey to Windmill Hill, East Sussex. They have had an adventure packed week including Archery, Abseiling, Canoeing, Raft building, climbing Jacob’s ladder and a Blindfolded sensory trail through the woods!
