  • Planetarium

    Last week, we hosted a mobile planetarium that allowed children to develop a greater understanding of our place in the solar system.

     

    Children in reception, year 2 and year 5 sat in a huge inflatable dome and were flown past planets, stars and galaxies as an astronomy expert explained the origin and structure of them.

     

    It was truly an amazing and enriching experience - it could almost be described as out of this world.

  • World Book Day

    World Book Day is taking place on Thursday 7th March. This year we will focus on bedtime stories. 

     

    On this day, we are asking children to dress for a bedtime story, wearing their pyjamas, carrying their teddies, with their favourite bedtime story to share and donate £1 for our sponsored child.

    Waste Week takes place during the week beginning 25th February.

     

    Eco-Warriors have been working hard to promote recycling at Downderry and have asked Lewisham Council to donate recycling bins for our classrooms to help us recycle at school.

  • After School Activities

    There will be no after school activities running next week. Sessions will resume after half term on Monday 25th February.

     

    Forest Club will continue to be open as normal.

  • Early Years, Social Skills Week

    Early years have enjoyed learning all about how to keep themselves healthy during their Health Week.

     

    They had a fantastic time at soft play and completing PE circuits with Mr Hall. They have tasted some delicious smoothies and learnt teeth brushing techniques.

     

    We would like to thank Bellingham Leisure Centre for donating the free soft play session. The children were asked how they felt after the session; they said they were 'sweaty' and 'exhausted'!

    Well done Early Years.

    We would like to say thank you and goodbye to Mr Hall who will be leaving us Downderry today. A valued member of the school and the Early Years team in particular, we would like to thank Mr Hall for all his hard work and wish him every success for the future.

  • Children’s Centre Clothing Bank

    The Children’s Centre is launching their new Clothing Bank on the first Tuesday of every month.

     

    Do you need clothing for your children? Are you on benefits or a low income? Why not come along on Tuesday 5th February, 2pm - 3:30pm and take a look!

     

    We are also looking for donations of clothes, footwear and coats, especially for ages 4 -11 years. Donations can be brought to the reception area on Shroffold Road any weekday between 9am and 4pm.

  • Parent Workshop – Internet Safety

    Mon 14 Jan 2019

    Mr Bagnall will be holding a Parent Workshop on Tuesday 5th February, at 9:15am-10:00am in the dining hall.

     

    The session will cover the topic of Internet Safety and discuss ways children can make the most of the Internet by making smart decisions. Teaching children to use the web safely and wisely, so they can be confident explorers of the online world.
